What is DEI+I?

Diversity

Diversity usually means one of three things: demographic diversity (our gender, race, sexual orientation, and so on), experiential diversity (our affinities, hobbies, and abilities), and cognitive diversity (how we approach problems and think about things).

Equity

Promote justice, impartiality and fairness within the procedures, processes, and distribution of resources by institutions or systems. Tackling equity issues requires an understanding of the underlying or root causes of outcome disparities within our society.

Inclusion

Refers to the degree to which diverse individuals are able to participate fully in the decision-making processes within an organization or group.  While a truly “inclusive” group is necessarily diverse, a “diverse” group may or may not be “inclusive.”

Intersectionality

A framework for conceptualizing a person, group of people, or social problem as affected by a number of discriminations and disadvantages. It takes into account people’s overlapping identities and experiences in order to understand the complexity of prejudices they face.
